Girona welcomes throughout the year many food and craft markets that make you discover a whole world of proximity products. Many of them are our source of inspiration, and the door to new raw materials and new dishes. By leisurely touring the different markets, you also walk through the history of the city, since many of them accumulate years of activity and, at the same time, are in the oldest and most emblematic places. We invite you to do the Draps route through some of the most charming food and craft fairs and markets in Girona.
On Saturday, very early, venture yourself to discover La Lleona market. It takes place in Sant Feliu square on the first and second Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is, without doubt, one of our favorites. You can find everything from food to antiques. Personally, every time I find it impossible not to enchant myself and spend all morning imagining the perfect decoration for the restaurant, or the new products that can be included in our menu.
In addition, it is one of the markets with more history of the city, since its name goes back to the old tradition of those who visit Girona must kiss the ass of the lioness, the famous column at the entrance of the old quarter of the city, to guarantee that it will return.
If you are looking for relics and small treasures, the Pont de Pedra market is the perfect place to get lost in the most medieval environment of Girona. Several artisans exhibit ceramics, jewelry, crafts and many other unique and handmade pieces, which are sold every Saturday except in July, August and September. For us it is the closest way to know first-hand the meticulous work of Girona artists and, why not, take home some of their wonderful works.
For the most demanding buyers, the Ribes del Ter market is one of the largest, with about 200 stops. Get to know the typical and traditional food products of Girona, such as the famous sausages or cheeses, the most entertaining thing to do in this market, while the shopkeepers introduce you the latest developments in this sector.
You can also find fabrics and clothes, and it is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the morning, from September to June in the Ribes del Ter, and in summer in the Parque de la Devesa.
We encourage you to enjoy these charms and the most typical products of the land that inspire us every day in Draps and that you can’t miss, while you walk pleasantly through the medieval quarter of Girona.
